RTP-Rehab™ Case Study Utilizing the RTP-Rehab™ process to right size and return to production pipelines with integrity and maintenance issues Background:

An operator in the Gulf of Mexico had gas wells shut in due to multiple pipelines with integrity issues. The field generated produced water with high H2S creating high maintenance costs for this mature field. In addition, a component of the existing pipelines were bored under a ship channel. The RTP-Rehab™ Process was selected to analyze, develop and install new pipelines to minimize operating expense and at a fraction of the capital cost of a conventional pipeline replacement. The system had to be designed for 1600PSI Design pressures and 140°F Continuous Operating Temperature.

Installation:
  • The 3″ RTP for each line was supplied on three 12 FT OD spools (3.65M), with one spool placed in an A-frame positioned on the mezzanine deck and the remaining two spools were staged on the platform’s helideck
  • A synthetic rope was utilized to pull the 3″ RTP between platforms, through the 6″ steel pipeline risers. Both lines were approximately 9,300 FT in length
  • The total time required for pull through of each RTP line was 1 day, including splice couplings
  • A hydro test was performed on each RTP at 2,400 PSI for 24 hours, per the state regulators

After experiencing severe corrosion in the steel piping due to high temperatures – three phase flow from wells, with temperatures up to 95 C (203F) and up to 25% CO2 – an operator in Ecuador realized steel pipe was no longer meeting his requirements. RTP-Rehab™ Case Study Replacing a Corroded Steel Line with RTP Piping System Background:

An operator in West Virginia needed to replace a steel pipeline used to transfer salt water to a disposal well.  The line had corroded. Specialty RTP piping was selected for its ease of installation and elimination of corrosion issues for the future. The pipe was rated for 1,000PSI and 140F maximum operating temperature.

Installation:
  • RTP Pipe was pulled out with an ATV and with a total crew size of three
  • 7,500ft run with one length of pipe on a spool
  • Trenched after pipe is laid out to minimize right of way
